This book was recommended to me by several of my silversmithing instructors as the "go to book" to have. The illustrations are particularly helpful. I have read it from cover to cover and back again. The information is consise and well organized for the beginner to advanced metalsmith. The only "ding" would be an addition of another section to discuss which silver gauges would best be suited for what projects. This would be very helpful in planning your metal purchases for each type of project.
this book gives very useful and relevant information that you need all the time so its handy format, smallish, is really good to slip into your toolbox.

All metal art classrooms should have this book. It goes into great detail of the many techniques that can be used when working in metal. It is great for students who need ideas as well as the students who need help with the technical aspect of metalsmithing.
I ordered the book later than I should have for my class but it only took a week to arrive. My instructor is not formal education oriented so we fumble through class and get his help as needed. Far less time than stated that it could. The book is very informative. Sometimes he takes the project and completes it for us (we are not graded on what he finishes). This book answered questions that I had and allowed me to understand and be able to accomplish projects that would have been difficult with help from my instructor.
