All metal art classrooms should have this book. It goes into great detail of the many techniques that can be used when working in metal. It is great for students who need ideas as well as the students who need help with the technical aspect of metalsmithing.

I ordered the book later than I should have for my class but it only took a week to arrive. My instructor is not formal education oriented so we fumble through class and get his help as needed. Far less time than stated that it could. The book is very informative. Sometimes he takes the project and completes it for us (we are not graded on what he finishes). This book answered questions that I had and allowed me to understand and be able to accomplish projects that would have been difficult with help from my instructor.

The lay out and illustrations of the book really make it an easy and helpful resource. It is full of interesting facts, and covers just about anything you need to know to start working in metals.

This is a great book for beginners. Over the years the material has stayed pretty much the same with a lot of additions. It was a required resource for a jewelry class I took many years ago. I bought a new copy for my son when he got interested in jewelry making. It is a very straight forward easy to understand book. It is a good basic resource for anyone interested in doing metalsmithing or jewelry work.
